Shashi Tharoor, a prominent Congress leader, ridiculed the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) claim of winning over 400 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, suggesting that even reaching 300 or 200 seats could be challenging. During a conversation, he indicated that the BJP’s loss is almost certain, with the party possibly drawing a blank in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh.
Tharoor, who recently campaigned in Thiruvananthapuram for his fourth consecutive term, mentioned that Congress supporters are cautiously optimistic, especially in Hindi-speaking states. He added that there’s no significant wave in favor of the BJP, with many longtime observers noticing a lack of enthusiasm among BJP voters compared to previous elections.
Tharoor also stated that the Congress party and the broader INDIA bloc are performing better than expected in the initial election phases. With five phases left, he anticipates a tougher road ahead for the BJP, implying that the ruling party’s majority is at risk.
Despite the lighter tone, Tharoor is focused on the campaign ahead, using his speaking skills and celebrity status to rally support for the Congress party and its allies.
