Chennaiyin FC has extended the contract of goalkeeper Samik Mitra, keeping him at the Indian Super League (ISL) club until 2027. Mitra joined Chennaiyin FC from Indian Arrows in 2020 and has since played 22 matches, earning three clean sheets. The 23-year-old from Siliguri has quickly become a dependable presence in goal and has played a key role in the team’s performance.
Head coach Owen Coyle praised Mitra’s talent and potential. Samik has shown great promise. He is young, and we have seen what he can do in the matches he has played, he said. We believe he can keep growing with us, said Coyle, emphasizing the club’s commitment to developing young players.
Mitra made four appearances in the 2023-24 ISL season and is excited about his future with Chennaiyin FC. He first joined the club’s U-18 team in 2017, then spent time with Indian Arrows before rejoining Chennaiyin FC in 2020. Reflecting on his journey, Mitra said, I’m thrilled to stay with Chennaiyin FC. This club is the right place for him to learn and grow. We made the playoffs this season, adding that he wants to help the team do even better next year.
