Mrunal Thakur picked up THIS trick Pankaj Kapur

Must read

In the last couple of years, Mrunal Thakur has been upping her game with the kind of roles she received in films like Dhamaka, Toofaan and now Jersey. The actress says that she introduced a change in the way she perceived her characters to better her performance on screen.

She shares, “Earlier, I would just surrender myself to the director. Now, I even reach out to my co-actors and ask them about how they perceive my character. The interesting thing is that everyone comes up with different-different perspectives and points, which I add on. So, the character eventually becomes an amalgamation of what my co-actors think, what my team thinks, what my director and writer thinks and so on. This way, I feel the scene would always elevate.”

The actress also gives credit to the director, Gowtam Tinnanuri for bringing the best out of her for this project. She shares, “He has directed the original film too. So, initially I had inhibitions that will he want me to be exactly the way the original actor did the part? However, he suggested that I play Vidya the way I want to. He is a man who doesn’t speak much. He looks calm, but there is a storm inside his head!”

Talking about the idea she took to while shooting her scenes, Mrunal said, “I used to give him two extreme takes of the same scene and let him choose the best. I learnt this from Pankaj sir (Kapur, her co-star from the film). He is very good in modulations and variations. His first take is exactly different from his second take. I liked this process as it allows the director to choose the best one.”
