Omar Abdullah Alleges Undeclared ‘Emergency’ Exists In Country

Srinagar

Omar Abdullah, former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, claimed on Friday that the country is currently under an unannounced Emergency and criticized the lack of transparency in government affairs. He expressed his views at a media gathering in Srinagar, following the announcement of his candidacy for the Baramulla Lok Sabha seat by Farooq Abdullah.

Omar stated, Right now, it feels like there’s an unspoken Emergency happening. Unlike in the past with Indira Gandhi, who openly declared Emergency and then held elections, the current government lacks such openness. He also accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of not having an issue with dynastic politics, suggesting that when Modi talks about it, he’s targeting those who oppose him.

He pointed out that about one-fifth of the BJP’s Lok Sabha candidates come from political families. Regarding the Prime Minister’s promises about holding assembly elections and restoring statehood to J&K, Omar remarked, Modi saying assembly elections and statehood will be restored soon isn’t a favor; it’s an obligation as per the Supreme Court’s directive to hold elections in J&K before September 30th. They must follow the Court’s orders.
