On the occasion of National No Smoking Day, City Central Police, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police B Dayananda, has issued an appeal to all proprietors and managers of hotels, bars, restaurants, clubs, and pubs.

The appeal mentions the importance of adhering to the provisions outlined in the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) 2003, as well as the associated regulations and notifications.

In the appeal, City Central Police highlights several key points such as, Establishment of Designated Smoking Areas (DSAs) , this must strictly adhere to the norms specified by the Prohibition of Smoking in Public Place Rules 2008, amended as per the GSR500 (E) 2017 notification. DSAs should be clearly marked and adequately ventilated to prevent exposure to second-hand smoke.

Providing food, beverages, or tobacco products within DSAs is strictly prohibited to discourage smoking and protect non-smokers from exposure to harmful tobacco smoke.

Establishments must display clear and visible signage indicating the rules of DSAs, including the prohibition of service within these areas, to ensure patrons are aware of these regulations.

Routine checks and inspections will be conducted to ensure compliance with regulations. Violations may result in fines, imprisonment, or cancellation of trade licenses.

On National No Smoking Day, City Central Police urges all stakeholders to cooperate and work together to promote public health and ensure a smoke-free environment for everyone.
