Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Priyank Kharge said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s claim that the state government has delayed by three months in submitting the drought relief request is false.
He was addressing a press conference at the Congress office in the city.
The state government had declared 223 talukas out of 236 talukas as drought-prone and 196 talukas out of 223 talukas as severe drought-prone and submitted a report to the center on September 22, 2023. The team of 10 members of the Center visited the drought affected areas on October 5 and 9 and conducted a drought study. After that, another 21 taluks of the state were declared drought-affected and an additional petition was submitted to the Center on October 9.
According to Drought Manual rules, drought report for monsoon season should be submitted by October 31 and post monsoon drought report by March 31. The Monsoon Drought Report of the State Government was submitted on September 22 and the additional appeal was submitted on October 9 within the prescribed date. However, the Union Home Minister has lied that the petition was submitted late, he said.
