Tumakuru
Former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy, while campaigning for V Somanna in Tumakuru, highlighted the role of Former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa in his own ascent to power, stating that Yediyurappa had facilitated his initial tenure as Chief Minister. Kumaraswamy noted that despite having fewer MLAs, they were given the opportunity to form the government together in 2006.
Yediyurappa, who has served as Chief Minister four times, was acknowledged for his administration’s initiative of providing Rs. 4,000 compensation to farmers during his tenure. However, Kumaraswamy lamented that this support was discontinued under the subsequent Congress government, accusing them of mismanaging funds and borrowing excessively.
He criticized the current government’s lack of focus on developmental projects, alleging that their emphasis on publicity through advertisements overshadowed actual progress. Despite the Congress government’s claims of offering five guarantees, Kumaraswamy asserted that they failed to deliver on crucial promises and neglected vital sectors such as agriculture.
Moreover, he highlighted the central government’s role in providing support prices for various agricultural products but criticized their failure to address the needs of coconut farmers, pledging to advocate for their interests in the future.
In summary, Kumaraswamy’s remarks underscored the significant contributions of Yediyurappa’s leadership while also criticizing the current government’s ineffective policies and lack of tangible progress in crucial sectors like agriculture.
