K. T. Rama Rao, the working president of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), announced on Tuesday that he plans to send legal notices to two Congress leaders, including a Minister from Telangana, for making false claims about him ordering phone tapping while BRS was in power in the state. One of the Congress leaders, Environment and Forests Minister Konda Surekha, accused Rama Rao of phone tapping and threatening actresses.
He also mentioned that legal notices will be sent to news outlets for spreading these claims without verifying facts.
The issue arose after Congress leaders K. Mahender Reddy and MLA Yennam Srinivas Reddy requested the Hyderabad Police Commissioner to investigate KTR’s alleged involvement in phone tapping. MLA Srinivas Reddy had previously filed a complaint with DGP Ravi Gupta, claiming his phones were tapped on the orders of a former BRS minister.
Allegations of phone tapping also involved threats to encourage BRS corporators to join the Congress, as claimed by Mahender Reddy. Konda Surekha cited confessions from police officers accused of phone tapping, stating they snooped on top Tollywood personalities’ phones and even extorted some. Four police officials have been arrested in connection with the case, including former DCP, Task Force, Radha Kishan Rao, and a lookout notice has been issued for former chief of Special Intelligence Branch (SIB) Prabhakar Rao.
