Following a recent increase in disruptions to flights by Vistara Airline, a partnership between Tata and SIA airlines, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has instructed the airline to provide daily reports detailing any cancelled or delayed flights. The DGCA cited various reasons for these disruptions, including crew shortages.
Vikram Dev Dutt, Director General of the DGCA, stated that Vistara must ensure compliance with CAR Section-3, Series M, Part-IV, which outlines the facilities airlines must offer passengers in cases of denied boarding, flight cancellations, or delays. These facilities include advance information, refund options, and compensation where applicable.
Dutt mentioned that DGCA officials are closely monitoring the situation to ensure compliance with these regulations and minimize inconvenience to passengers. The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) also stated on the X platform that while they are monitoring the situation, airlines are responsible for managing flight operations and must adhere to DGCA norms for passenger facilitation during cancellations or delays.
Vistara acknowledged the disruptions, attributing them to crew shortages and other factors. They expressed concern over the inconvenience caused to passengers and stated their commitment to minimizing discomfort. The airline announced measures for temporarily reducing flight numbers and deploying larger aircraft on select routes to accommodate affected customers.
