TSRTC’s Green Metro Buses Flagged Off

The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) unveiled a fleet of eco-friendly electric non-AC buses in Hyderabad, with Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, and Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy inaugurating 22 electric Green Metro buses near the Secretariat’s Ambedkar statue.

Operating under the Mahalakshmi scheme, these buses offer free travel for women and boast zero emissions, accommodating 35 passengers over a 225 km range on a single charge, which takes 3 to 4 hours. Additionally, they feature cell phone charging facilities.

The TSRTC currently transports 47.10 lakh passengers daily with 9,067 buses covering 32.33 lakh km. Notably, 40 AC e-buses have operated since March 2019, with 25 Green Metro Luxury AC e-buses joining in September 2023. An additional 25 vehicles are ready, with 450 more expected to be operational by August 2024.

The TSRTC plans to introduce 1,050 e-buses between 2023-24 and 2024-25, aiming for pollution-free e-mobility in the state. Deputy CM Vikramarka expressed pride in the TSRTC’s endeavors, striving for it to lead among public sector organizations. He emphasized the government’s commitment to revitalizing the TSRTC, which previously struggled financially and faced privatization threats. The government seeks to safeguard employment in both the TSRTC and Singareni Collieries, employing a combined one lakh individuals.
