The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has initiated a comprehensive interrogation of every individual who had contact with Trinamool Congress leader Sheikh Shahjahan before the January 5 assault on Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials in Sandeshkhali. CBI sources indicate through these interrogations, they aim to unravel the precise planning behind Shahjahan’s orchestration of the attack upon learning of the presence of ED officials and Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) personnel at his location. According to sources, the CBI has obtained records of phone calls made from Shahjahan’s two mobile phones within the 30 minutes preceding the attack. These calls include communications with a ruling party legislator, members of the local panchayat system in Sandeshkhali’s two blocks, and trusted employees involved in Shahjahan’s enterprises.

Of particular interest to CBI investigators is a 90-second conversation between Shahjahan and the ruling party MLA, conducted shortly before the attack. They believe that the contents of this brief exchange could provide crucial insights into the attack’s planning. Furthermore, the CBI recently conducted a raid at the residence of Abu Hussain Molla, a close associate of Shahjahan and one of the individuals in communication with him before the assault. This operation aimed to gather supporting evidence linking Molla to Shahjahan in the context of a multi-crore ration distribution case, as well as the January 5 attack on ED and CAPF teams.
