Naga Vamsi defends Vijay Deverakonda’s film Kingdom

Producer Naga Vamsi has spoken out against claims that Vijay Deverakonda’s recent movie Kingdom was a box office failure. He clarified that while the film did not meet sky-high expectations, it was far from a flop.

“It certainly didn’t meet the expectations from the combination of Vijay Deverakonda and Gowtam Tinnanuri, but it was not a flop, nor did we lose heavily,” Naga Vamsi said. He explained that Kingdom performed decently compared to Deverakonda’s previous film Kushi.

“The film grossed $1.8 million in North America alone and collected Rs 12 crore in the Nizam region. How can you call it a flop?” he questioned. The producer described Kingdom as an “average grosser,” saying there were only minor losses in a few areas. “We didn’t lose money at all, but yes, we expected a stronger run,” he added.

Released in July 2025, Kingdom stars Vijay Deverakonda, Satyadev, and Bhagyashri Borse. It marked director Gowtam Tinnanuri’s first release since the critically acclaimed Jersey. The film opened with strong buzz but received mixed reviews from both critics and audiences.

Despite the varied reactions, Naga Vamsi emphasized that Kingdom’s box office performance was respectable and should not be labeled a commercial failure.
