The Karnataka cabinet’s approval for internal reservation within Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes has been hailed as a historic step by Aam Aadmi Party’s state president Dr. CM Chandru. Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Chandru said the decision marks the victory of a 35-year-long struggle by marginalized sub-groups within the community.
“On behalf of the party, I extend congratulations to all those who have fought for this cause,” he said. Chandru pointed out that due to the non-implementation of the Sadashiva Commission report in its true spirit, many nomadic and smaller sub-castes had been left without a voice and deprived of the benefits of reservation.
He urged the government to expedite pending recruitments and promotions under the new policy. “Reservation must not remain a token measure; it should lead to genuine empowerment. The funds earmarked for Scheduled Castes and Tribes must be effectively utilized in sectors like education and healthcare to bring about transformative changes,” he stressed.
Chandru further emphasized the need to provide world-class modern public education facilities for children from these communities, enabling them to compete equally and achieve social, economic, and educational empowerment.
