Vivek Ramaswamy, an Indian-American biotech entrepreneur turned politician, is reportedly under consideration by former President Donald Trump as a potential running mate for the 2024 presidential elections, according to a reports. Trump revealed six names during a town hall event, including South Carolina Senator Tim Scott, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, former Hawaii Representative Tulsi Gabbard, Ramaswamy, Florida Representative Byron Donalds, and South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem.
Trump’s mention of Ramaswamy, 38, comes after Ramaswamy withdrew from the Republican presidential candidacy following a disappointing performance in the Iowa caucuses in mid-January and endorsed Trump as the winner. Ramaswamy had previously hinted at being Trump’s running mate if he didn’t secure the Republican nomination.
Although Trump praised all the individuals on his shortlist during the town hall event, he notably highlighted Tim Scott for his unwavering support. However, Trump’s consideration of DeSantis raised eyebrows given their history of public disagreements, though DeSantis has since endorsed Trump.
Meanwhile, Nikky Haley, another Indian-American politician, remains in the Republican presidential race despite trailing behind Trump in the South Carolina primary. Haley, 52, has vowed to continue her campaign despite facing tough competition on her home turf.
