There is now a huge demand for the tender jackfruit pods, which were growing in coffee plantations, mostly in the hilly areas and were wasted as fruit, but they are being supplied by loads to other states on a regular basis.

In North India, many dishes prepared from tender Jackfruit are popularly placed as special food in homes and hotels. It is also a favorite food for horses. Thus, there has been a huge demand for tender Jackfruit in the district. It is being sent from Hassan to various places including Maharashtra and Rajasthan. There are also reports that Maharashtra is also exporting to foreign countries.

The traders who give and take contracts are taking all the young jackfruits and fruits from the tree and transporting them to other states and are priced from Rs10 to Rs 500.

A herd of wild elephants attacked the coffee plantations of Sakaleshpur, Alur and Belur taluks to eat jackfruit, felled the trees and ransacked the plantation. To avoid it, the farmers cut down the jackfruit trees or destroy the nuts by removing them from the tree. Meanwhile, traders are now seen in the doorsteps of the growers to buy those fruits with money. It is a special thing and the creation of an interstate and international market is a boon for the jackfruit growers.
