MP Nalin Kumar Kateel visited the construction site of the Kulai fisheries jetty and heard the grievances of local fishers. He told media persons that due to various reasons, the project got delayed.
However, he said now the work has gained pace and it will be completed as soon as possible. The total estimate is Rs 196.5 crore out of which the central government’s contribution is 50 percent, Rs 98.2 crore, while the Department of Ports will chip in with Rs 88.4 crore, 45 percent and the rest 5 pecent, Rs 9.8 crore by the state government. The jetty will benefit the fishers involved in inland and deep-sea fishing. It is designed to anchor 300 boats.
Nalin said two breakwaters that are in L shape and stretch to 264 meters and 831 meters have been constructed. The fishers have requested to develop one more breakwater of 500 meters length and the same will be discussed with the Central Government officials. MLA Y Bharat Shetty was present.
