The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has accomplished 35 infrastructure projects valued at Rs 670 crore, including 29 bridges and six roads in seven border areas, inaugurated by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. These projects, situated in challenging terrains across Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Arunachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Mizoram, and Himachal Pradesh, emphasize the government’s commitment to developing border regions.

Inaugurating the projects, Rajnath Singh highlighted the transformative approach towards border area development, contrasting it with previous administrations that viewed these areas as marginal. The present government considers border areas as India’s face and prioritizes creating world-class infrastructure. Singh emphasized the strategic and welfare significance of providing connectivity to every border region through roads, bridges, and tunnels.

He underlined the change in perception, stating that border areas are now considered part of the mainstream rather than buffer zones. The government’s commitment to the comprehensive development of border areas aligns with Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, ensuring schemes reach the last person, extending from seas to borders.

Singh expressed concern about large-scale migration from border areas in Uttarakhand, emphasizing that government initiatives aim to cover the development journey from seas to borders. He drew attention to the growing natural disasters in border states, linking these incidents to climate change. The Ministry of Defence takes climate change seriously, seeking cooperation from friendly countries to address this pressing national security concern.
