Is there anything more important than providing drought relief to farmers, Minister Krishna Byregowda took officers to task.
Speaking at the Revenue Department’s progress review meeting on Wednesday at the Regional Commissioner’s office.
He said, in order to prevent the misuse of drought relief funds and to provide quick relief to the farmers, it has been many months since we ordered to update the information on the area of the farmers’ land in the FRUITS software. However, the update of fruits in the district is not more than 75 percent, he expressed his displeasure.
Farmers are suffering due to drought. A memorandum has been submitted to the Center asking for relief, and a team from the Center has also arrived in the state and conducted a drought study. However, no compensation has come from the Centre. Therefore, the state government has decided to pay the first installment. However, it is wrong for the authorities to be indifferent without updating Fruits.
Without updating the Fruits software, it is not possible to give fair compensation to the farmers. If the farmers do not come forward to mention the area of their land, the Deputy Commissioner and Tahsildar must issue a press release to create awareness among the farmers and give them a deadline to complete the renovation in the next week.
