In a major operation, Commercial Tax officials have seized illicit liquor worth over Rs 50 lakh. The irregularities came to light when the tanker was on its way from Bengaluru to Udaipur in Rajasthan.
Assistant Commissioner of Commercial Taxes Vijay Kumar Sanadi led the operation led by Deputy Commissioner Balappa Sampangaon on a tip-off that illegal liquor was being transported using fake GST bills. During an operation at Narendra toll plaza in Dharwad, officials found that liquor bottles worth lakhs of rupees were being transported in fake bills and fake tankers.
Illegal liquor was being transported in the name of waste oil. The driver fled while checking the tanker.
