Bangalore is gearing up to become home to South India’s largest Multimodal Logistics Park (MMLP), situated in the outskirts of Bangalore North, in Obalapur. The foundation work has commenced, with full-scale construction slated to begin in March. Covering an expansive 400 acres, the logistics park will offer comprehensive facilities including logistics services, warehousing, and cold storage. The primary objective is to reduce overall logistics costs, aiming to bring it down from 13% to 9%, thereby enhancing the competitiveness of exports. By 2070, the park is expected to boast a substantial storage capacity of approximately 30 million metric tons. The establishment of this logistics park is anticipated to catalyze industrial growth in Bangalore, Tumkur, and the surrounding districts. Furthermore, it is anticipated to alleviate traffic congestion by decreasing the influx of trucks delivering goods to the city. With an estimated cost of ₹1,770 crore, the project is being developed by Bangalore MMLP Private Limited, a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) with three partners. The majority stake (51.29%) is held by NHAI’s National Highways Logistics Management Limited (NHLML), followed by Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (32.38%) and Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (16.33%). In August 2023, the SPV inked an agreement with the private firm PATH (PATH) Bangalore Logistics Park Private Limited for a Design, Build, Finance, Operate, and Transfer (DBFOT) arrangement. This logistics park will facilitate connectivity through various modes of transport, including the Bangalore-Hubli-Mumbai railway line to the south, an industrial park being developed by KIADB to the east, and the Dabuspet-Doddaballapur-Hosakote stretch of the ring road (NH 648) to the north. The satellite ring road will enhance connectivity to Kempegowda International Airport and the Chennai Port via the Bangalore-Chennai Expressway.
