Rajya Sabha MP Eranna Kadadi appealed to the central government to respond to the drought problem of the state to solve the hardships faced by the farmers due to drought in the state of Karnataka in the zero hour of the winter session of the Parliament in Delhi. The normal rainfall in the state of Karnataka is between 131 mm to 138 mm every year during these two periods of Monsoon and Monsoon. But he pointed out that in the current year, 47 mm to 107 mm of rain has fallen and there is a deficiency of 47 to 65 percent of rain. Karnataka State has 14 reservoirs with a total water storage capacity of 896 TMC. Current year, only 404 TMC of water is stored in these reservoirs. There is at present only 45 % of water storage in all the reservoirs of the state. 55% of water shortage is found in reservoirs. Due to severe lack of rain, the ground water level has dropped by 11% in the state. As a result, out of 236 taluks of the state, 223 taluks have been declared as drought-prone areas.
