The body of 23-year-old Indian student Gurashman Singh Bhatia, who went missing in the UK last week, has been discovered near a lake in East London, according to the Metropolitan Police. Gurashman, a student at Loughborough University, was reported missing after a night out with friends on December 14. CCTV footage last captured Gurashman in the South Quay area around 04:20hrs on December 15. Despite extensive efforts, including CCTV analysis, speaking to witnesses, and water searches, he remained missing. On Wednesday afternoon, police divers located his body in the water in South Quay. Although formal identification is pending, Gurashman’s family in Jalandhar has been informed. The circumstances surrounding his death are currently considered unexpected, and while there’s no indication of foul play, the police will conduct a thorough investigation. Detective Chief Superintendent James Conway, responsible for local policing in Tower Hamlets, urged anyone who may have seen Gurashman in the Marsh Wall area on the evening of December 14 and early hours of December 15 to come forward. Reacting to Gurashman’s death, BJP leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa expressed deep sadness and condolences, highlighting the challenges faced by Indian students abroad. This incident follows the recent death of another 23-year-old Indian student, Mitkumar Patel, whose body was found on the bank of the Thames river in November, days after being reported missing.
