The Shiralakoppa police have arrested three thieves who had stolen arecanut from Balligavi village in Shikaripura taluk. Arecanut worth Rs 2 lakh, a vehicle and other valuables worth around Rs 9 lakh were seized.
The accused had stolen 3 quintals of 50 kg of dry arecanut from Ramesh, a resident of Balligavi village, from his house. A case in this regard was registered at Shiralakoppa Police Station.
The police arrested three persons from Bhatkal town. The arrested have been identified as Abrar Shaikh (21), Abdul Waheed Tar (22) and Imran (20). They are involved in two cases of arecanut theft each in Shiralakoppa and Anandapuram police station limits. A total of 5 quintals 14 kg of dry arecanut worth Rs 2,41,586 and a Bolero vehicle used in the crime were seized. The arrested have been produced in court.
