After playing supporting roles in Mani Ratnam’s Kadal and Kaatrin Mozhi, starring Jyotika, actress Lakshmi Manchu is returning to Tamil films with an untitled film starring Bigg Boss Tamil fame Tharshan and Madhuri Jain. Quiz her about her sporadic appearances in Tamil and the actress tells us that there is no reason behind it. “As an artiste, you can’t give a reason for why you did not do something. The parts need to find you, I believe that when a role is meant for you, it will come to you,” she states.
Having been born and brought up in Chennai, the actress says that she considers Tamil her first language even though it is not her mother tongue. “I love speaking in Tamil,” she says.
Revealing what attracted her to this project, she states, “The entire team is filled with young people with a lot of passion and fire. In fact, I was the senior-most person on the set. The film is an exciting thriller ride with music by Anirudh. And I get to play a cop for the first time in my career. So, I had to do this film.”
The actress’s character will be named Rajini, she informs. “In fact, I have told Anirudh that he better give my scenes a Baashha kind of re-recording,” she laughs. Elaborating further on the role, she adds, “Rajini is a straightforward cop, a Deputy Commissioner of Police, who is good at her job.”
With this being her first cop role, the actress says she did some prep work even though the role did not call for any. “I wanted to look the part. I have many cop friends and I used to call them with the silliest of doubts, like what kind of gun they would use,” she says.
