Between November 27 and December 3, a delegation comprised of the families of Israeli hostages held in Gaza undertook a diplomatic mission in Australia. This initiative was orchestrated by Israel’s Ministry of Diaspora Affairs and the Fight against Anti-Semitism, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During their stay, the delegation engaged with prominent figures in Australia, including Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Foreign Minister Penny Wong, and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Richard Marles. They also held meetings with senior government officials, members of the Australian Parliament, and the substantial Jewish communities in Melbourne and Sydney. Mika Shani, whose brother Amit was kidnapped by Hamas, emphasized the delegation’s mission, we are here to open the world’s eyes. This is not a matter of politics, Hamas is a terrorist organization, and the world should condemn the massacre and work to free the kidnapped.

This visit to Australia marked the seventh of its kind since the commencement of the war. Prior delegations visited London, Rome, the United States, Canada, Mexico, Miami, and Brussels. In each location, family members engaged with heads of state, parliamentarians, representatives of aid organizations, and journalists, aiming to exert international pressure for the return of the abductees and actions against Hamas.
