The Community Health Centre (CHC) in Ullal town in the constituency represented by assembly speaker UT Khader will be maintained by the Yenepoya Medical College. The Health Department has signed an MoU with the Medical College to maintain the Hospital, which was upgraded into a CHC a few years ago, said District Health Officer Dr HR Thimmaiah.
An MoU has been signed with the Yenepoya Medical College to maintain the Hospital. As per the MoU, the Medical College should maintain the Hospital for a period of one year. The agreement may be extended up to three years, if their services are found satisfactory. The Medical College will have to appoint required specialists and ensure all services, including the outpatient consultation, in-patient treatment, laboratory tests and radiology diagnosis, will be made available to the patients for free, the District Health Officer told. The Medical College will provide specialists including gynaecologists, surgeon, orthopedician and others to the CHC. Further, they will also provide an ultrasound scanning unit, he said.
If patients at the CHC need advanced treatment, then the doctors should refer the case compulsorily to any Government hospitals like Wenlock District Hospital or Lady Goschen Hospital. Hence, as per the condition, they cannot send patients to Private Hospitals, he said, adding that the hospital will be functioning in a full-fledged manner soon.
Though the health department has taken a decision to hand over the maintenance of the Hospital to the Hedical college, the DYFI has questioned the move. Will the voters of Ullal agree to hand over a government hospital to a private institute, DYFI State President Muneer Katipalla sought to know.
