In a distressing incident, a young woman faced sexual harassment at the hands of a Rapido auto rickshaw driver in Bangalore. The traumatic episode unfolded when she resisted the driver’s advances and was subsequently thrown out of the moving auto. Shockingly, despite Rapido being notified, no substantial action was taken. The unsettling account came to light through a post on the micro-blogging platform ‘X’, where Ankur Bagchi shared the ordeal of his girlfriend. According to his post, the woman encountered unwelcome advances and lewd comments from the auto driver, ultimately leading to her ejection from the moving vehicle when she protested. Expressing frustration, Bagchi highlighted that despite his friend filing a complaint with Rapido, the company’s response merely comprised an apology, lacking any follow-up or details about the accused rickshaw driver. This lack of concrete action has sparked outrage among Rapido users, cautioning others to exercise vigilance and avoid using the service due to reported instances of misconduct. Subsequently, an FIR was lodged a day after the distressing incident occurred, marking the official initiation of an investigation into the matter. This incident has once again brought attention to the safety concerns surrounding ride-hailing services and the imperative need for swift and effective responses to such grave complaints.
