A former Superintendent of Air Customs, V Vishweshwar Bhat, has been sentenced to four years in jail and fined Rs 26.25 lakh by a special CBI court in Bengaluru for amassing disproportionate assets. During his tenure as superintendent from 2010 to 2016, Bhat was found to possess assets valued at Rs 39.65 lakh, exceeding his known sources of income by 113.46%. The CBI initiated the case in March 2016 and subsequently filed a chargesheet in 2017, alleging that Bhat accumulated assets worth Rs 28.38 lakh, which were 61.94% higher than his income during his service as a public servant.
