Whatever has been decided in the Cabinet, we will inform the High Court. What the CBI and the court do next, it is up to the system, said Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara.

Reacting to the withdrawal of the CBI case against Deputy CM DK Shivakumar, he said, Yediyurappa had given an oral order to hand over the case to the CBI, was it not politically motivated then.   We have taken this decision within the framework of law, within our limitations.  We will submit the cabinet meeting decision to the High Court. Earlier, the rule in the system was that if we have to file a case against an MLA in any one case, the speaker’s permission has to be taken. That’s not what I did.

On October 3, 2020, DK Shivakumar was booked under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 in connection with the disproportionate assets case. The CBI had registered a case against Shivakumar. In July 2022, Shivakumar had filed a writ petition in the high court seeking quashing of the probe as the FIR registered by the CBI was illegal. The bench had on February 10, 2023, granted an interim stay on the probe.
