Following the deaths of ten people in suspected hooch tragedies in Sitamarhi and Gopalganj, former Bihar chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi savaged chief minister Nitish Kumar, demanding that he execute people in the same manner that General Dyer executed people in Jalliawalan Bagh in Amritsar during British rule.

In the past, Jitan Ram Manjhi had also spoken out against Bihar’s prohibition on alcohol. He asserted that there is alcohol available everywhere in the state and that there are a lot of hooch tragedies. He claimed that the administration’s prohibition on alcohol had primarily penalized members of the Dalit community and the impoverished.

On November 17, after consuming phony alcohol, five people from three villages under the jurisdiction of Bajpatti police station in the Sitamarhi district passed away. The deceased were identified as Raushan Kumar and Santosh Mahto of Narhar village, Mahesh Yadav of Narhar Kalan village, and Vikram Kumar and Ram Babu of Soloman Tola village.

They reportedly drank counterfeit alcohol on Thursday night in Mahuain village, according to sources. Their condition began to worsen on Friday. In nearby hospitals, where they were admitted by family members, they passed away. On November 19, a suspected hooch tragedy in the Gopalganj district claimed the lives of five people. The incident happened at the Baikunthpur police station in the villages of Bahrampur, Sirsa, Maanpur, and Bamo. The names of the deceased were Jhagdu Rai, Sikandar Shah, Suresh Ram, Tinku Ram, and Rohit Sharma.
