The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is set to embark on the construction of the city’s longest flyover, spanning 15 km from Pura Police Station to Kolathur Junction. The ambitious project aims to significantly reduce vehicular congestion along the bustling Old Madras Road in the eastern part of Bengaluru. NHAI’s Bangalore Project Director, K.B. Jayakumar, highlighted that the flyover would alleviate traffic at major junctions like Pallya and Bhattarahalli. Connecting the Bangalore-Chennai Expressway, the six-lane flyover is poised to be the city’s lengthiest carriageway, surpassing the Electronic City Express on Hosur Road, which is 9.98 km long. While locals express a desire to link the Pura cable flyover to the new project, officials maintain that such integration isn’t feasible. The flyover will incorporate three significant underpasses near MVJ Hospital, Hoskote Junction, and Kolathur on Old Madras Road. The estimated cost of the flyover is ₹1,500 crore, utilizing a hybrid annuity model with cost-sharing between NHAI and the contractor. Jayakumar assured that additional land acquisition wouldn’t be necessary, and the Detailed Project Report (DPR) is scheduled for completion by March 2024. In addressing discussions about the Hosakote toll plaza, officials mentioned the possibility of constructing a new flyover over the toll collection station, emphasizing that a final decision is pending. The flyover is envisioned as a significant infrastructure development to enhance connectivity in the eastern part of the city.
