Gen Z professionals in India are displaying a greater interest in acquiring Artificial Intelligence (AI) skills compared to older generations, spending 73% more time learning this skill, according to a report by LinkedIn. The global professional networking platform found that Gen Z is dedicating 1.3 times more time than Gen X and 2.4 times more time than Baby Boomers to learn AI. The report highlighted the imperative nature of upskilling, emphasizing the need for cultivating human skills such as leadership and problem-solving to harness the full potential of AI. The increased interest in AI skills aligns with the growing global conversation around AI, which saw a 70% increase from December 2022 to September 2023. In India, the preferred skills among learners vary across generations. Gen Z is focusing on digital skills like Programming Languages, Cloud Computing, and Data Analysis, while Millennials and Gen X are investing in soft skills such as Leadership and Management, Personal Effectiveness, and Personal Development. With AI taking over routine tasks, professionals have the opportunity to concentrate on meaningful and creative work that requires soft skills. The report revealed that tech professionals in the Asia-Pacific region who developed one or more soft skills, in addition to hard skills, experienced promotions over 13% faster than those with only hard skills. In India, the most demanded soft skills for AI and AI-related job postings include communication, analytical skills, and sales. The report also noted a rise in hybrid job posts in India, increasing from 13.2% in August 2022 to 20.1% in August 2023, reflecting the growing demand for flexible work arrangements.
