Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya confirmed on Monday the capsize of a cargo ship, named Kafkametler, and its 12-member crew off the country’s Black Sea coast. The incident occurred during a powerful storm overnight, with authorities unable to establish contact with the crew. The vessel, en route from the Russian port of Temryuk to Aliaga in Turkey carrying ferrosilicon, sank after striking the breakwater in Eregli. Minister Yerlikaya stated that adverse weather conditions have hindered search and rescue efforts, emphasizing that operations will commence promptly once the weather conditions improve. The region experienced severe storms on Sunday, contributing to the challenging circumstances surrounding the capsized cargo ship and its crew. Authorities remain committed to initiating search and rescue activities as soon as weather conditions permit.
