In the first 10 months of this year, Cambodia’s renowned Angkor Archeological Park witnessed a remarkable surge in international visitors, with a total of 602,570 foreigners from 193 countries and regions. This figure reflects a substantial increase of 256 percent compared to the same period last year when 169,257 visitors were recorded. According to a report from the state-owned Angkor Enterprise, the top four sources of international visitors to the park during January-October 2023 were the United States, Britain, France, and China. The report highlights a positive trend in tourism, showcasing the enduring appeal of the Angkor Archeological Park. Top Sopheak, Secretary of State and Spokesperson for the Cambodian Ministry of Tourism, expressed optimism about the newly inaugurated Siem Reap Angkor International Airport (SAI), which commenced commercial operations on November 16. Sopheak emphasized the airport’s strategic importance in boosting tourism, the economy, trade, and investment. He anticipates that the new international airport will attract more airlines, leading to an influx of tourists and investors to Siem Reap province, home to the iconic Angkor. Situated in northwest Cambodia, the Angkor Archeological Park, covering 401 square kilometers, holds UNESCO World Heritage status since 1992, making it the most popular tourist destination in the country.
