Mahadevapura Zone, one of the eight zones within the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), has found itself in the midst of various problems, from encroachments in stormwater drains to recurrent flooding. Now, it faces yet another issue as its roads are riddled with pervasive potholes and craters, leading to mounting frustration among residents and making the streets perilous. BBMP records from the past three years reveal an expenditure of Rs 1,456 crore allocated to pothole repairs in the Mahadevapura Zone. Despite this significant investment, the visible results have been less than satisfactory, leaving residents disheartened. Jagadeesh Reddy of Varthur Rising voiced his concerns, saying, “Commuting in areas like Varthur, Hoody, Whitefield, and others has become challenging due to the condition of the roads. We have repeatedly reported this issue to the authorities, but no action has been taken to address the problem. The roads in AECS Layout, Varthur, Hoody, Tubarahalli, and BEML Layout have turned into accident-prone areas, particularly for two-wheeler riders. JC Reddy, a Meenakshi Layout resident, highlighted the issue, stating, “Numerous potholes plague the main road, making it difficult for motorists, especially during rainy weather. The absence of a footpath between Kundalahalli Junction and Tubarahalli causes inconvenience to pedestrians. Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar recently assured residents during an interaction that the city’s potholes would be filled by the next month. “The Deputy Chief Minister informed us that he has already directed BBMP officials to address the issue,” said a spokesperson. The resolution of this problem will be closely monitored by the residents, eagerly awaiting the promised improvements in their local road conditions.
