DCM DK Shivakumar said, The system of applying for government awards will be stopped and the method of selection through an expert committee will be considered. He spoke after awarding the 23rd Sangham of Culture held at Gandhi Bhavan in the city on Saturday. A new system has to be implemented for award selection. Any award should be respected. Award should not be given under any pressure. There is an idea to award the number of the year as per Rajyotsava, he said. We are now caught in a predicament. We invited online applications for the Kannada Rajyotsava award. More than two and a half thousand applications have been received. Priority should be given to caste, district wise and all constituencies. While calculating everything, we have the challenge of who to choose and who to let go, he said.A committee of 20-30 experts from all fields has been formed to give the award for the current year. Any award given by the government should be reviewed and implemented by the committee. In the past, the number of awardees reached 200-300, he said.
