Prime Minister Narendra Modi Inaugurates Metro’s Purple Line Extensions

Must read

Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially inaugurated two significant extensions on the Purple Line of Bengaluru’s Namma Metro: Krishnarajapuram – Baiyappanahalli and Kengeri – Challaghatta. These operations had already commenced on October 9, 2023, without a formal launch by the Centre, ensuring minimal inconvenience to the public. Since their opening, the daily average number of Metro users has surged from 5-6 lakh to 7 lakh, highlighting the immense popularity and utility of these new lines. The Purple Line stands as Namma Metro’s longest operational route, covering 43.49 km between Challaghatta and Whitefield. It features a total of 36 metro stations, offering convenient access to commuters. The journey costs Rs 60 and takes approximately 76 minutes to traverse the entire distance. In recent developments, Bengaluru South Lok Sabha MP and BJP Yuva Morcha National President, Tejasvi Surya, had raised allegations against the previous Congress government in Karnataka. He claimed that they intentionally delayed the commencement of operations in the two metro lines, despite having received clearance from the CMRS (Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety). The inauguration of these extensions marks a significant step towards enhancing Bengaluru’s public transportation infrastructure and improving the daily commute for countless residents.
