Must read

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has confirmed that the eagerly awaited Yellow and Green Line extensions of Bengaluru’s metro system will become operational by April 2024. The Yellow Line covers a distance of 19 km, connecting RV Road to Bommasandra, while the Green Line extends 3 km from Nagasandra to Madavara. These extensions are poised to significantly enhance the city’s public transportation network and offer convenient connectivity to various key areas. The Yellow Line, in particular, plays a crucial role in linking Electronic City, one of Bengaluru’s prominent IT corridors. The announcement was made during the virtual inauguration of the metro’s recent extensions, from KR Pura to Baiyappanahalli and Kengeri to Challaghatt. These extensions were opened for public use on October 9, following mounting public demand. This marked a historic moment as commercial operations commenced for the first time in the history of Bengaluru’s metro. The total combined length of these two extensions is 4 km. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah also took the opportunity to urge the central government to promptly approve the metro’s 3rd phase project. The State Government has already submitted the Detailed Project Report (DPR) to the Central Government, proposing the Kempapura-JP Nagar Phase 4 and Hosahalli-Kadabagere Phase 3 projects, which together span 45 km and are estimated to cost Rs 15,611 crore. Furthermore, the DPR for Phase-3A of the Bengaluru Metro Rail Project, covering 37 km from Sarjapur to Hebbal, is already prepared. The Pink Line of the second phase of the metro project, running from Kalena Agrahara to Nagawara, is on track for completion by March 2025. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah also announced that the metro line from Central Silk Board to Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) via KR Pura and Nagawara will be operational within the next two years. With the addition of these new lines, Bengaluru’s metro system is expected to cater to over 20 lakh passengers daily, building on its current operational network spanning 74 km and serving more than 7 lakh passengers every day.
