Customs officials at Mangaluru International Airport have intensified their efforts to curb the rising cases of gold smuggling from Gulf countries into the city. To prevent smuggling via the sea route, additional boats have been deployed to monitor the sea between Mangaluru and Karwar over the past few days. The Indian Navy, Coast Guard, and Coastal Guard police are working collaboratively in these efforts. Additionally, the customs department is maintaining a 24×7 patrol in the region. In the last two months, gold worth more than Rs 2.5 crore has been confiscated at Mangaluru International Airport from passengers arriving on flights from Dubai. Dr. Mitosh Raghavan, Customs Deputy Commissioner in Mangaluru, confirmed the increased monitoring activities in the sea but did not provide further details.
