Labor Shortage Affecting Soybean Harvest

Must read

Hulasur The soybean harvest season is in full swing across the taluk, but local farmers are struggling to find enough laborers to help with the harvest. Despite making significant efforts to hire laborers, the high wages and management difficulties are causing frustration among the farmers. The soybean crop is currently being harvested in nearby villages, including Gorata, Togalura, Attaraga, Mehakara, Halasi Tugam, Vanjarkheda, and Miracle. Laborers are leaving Gule in search of higher wages, exacerbating the labor shortage problem. In response, school children and family members who are on Dussehra vacation without their parents are doing their best to assist with the harvest. The soybean prices in the market have also dipped below ₹5,000 this season. To address the labor shortage, the government provides agricultural machinery for rent through the Agricultural Machinery Sharing Scheme. However, there are complaints that some of the machines provided this time are not functioning properly, further adding to the farmers’ difficulties.
