Antim Panghal, the two-time reigning U20 champion, clinched a bronze medal in the women’s 53kg wrestling event at the 19th Asian Games by defeating Tokyo Olympic medallist Bat-Ochir Bolortuya of Mongolia.
Despite losing her quarterfinal bout to Japan’s Akari Fujinami, Antim Panghal advanced to the bronze medal bout through the repechage, where she received a bye.
Meanwhile, Pooja Gehlot missed out on a medal opportunity after losing 2-9 to Uzbekistan’s Aktenge Keunimjaeva in the women’s freestyle 50kg semifinal bronze medal match. Prior to that, Pooja faced a defeat by technical superiority against Japan’s two-time Asian Champion, Remina Yoshimoto, in the semifinal.
In the Greco-Roman wrestling category, Naveen suffered a 1-5 loss to South Korea’s Minseok Kim in the 130kg bronze medal bout.
