The Indian Congress party has intensified its criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s handling of the situation in Manipur, a northeastern state grappling with violence and instability. Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh accused the Prime Minister of neglecting the state and its people, emphasizing that Modi has been notably silent on the worsening crisis.

Ramesh cited the eruption of violence in Manipur five months ago due to divisive politics, and he lamented that there has been little improvement since then. He criticized the Chief Minister of Manipur, N. Biren Singh, for not addressing the situation effectively and questioned Modi’s engagement with the state.

In particular, Ramesh raised concerns about the breakdown of social harmony, the rise in violent crimes, and the displacement of tens of thousands of residents. He called the situation horrendous and argued that the state’s predicament reflects poorly on the BJP’s policies and Modi’s priorities.

Ramesh questioned when Modi last visited Manipur, engaged with the BJP Chief Minister of Manipur, met with BJP MLAs from the state, or discussed Manipur’s issues with his cabinet colleague representing the region.

The ongoing turmoil in Manipur has resulted in significant loss of life and the displacement of numerous residents. The Congress party has previously demanded the removal of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh and the formation of an all-party delegation to address the crisis. The situation in Manipur remains tense, with concerns about social unrest and violence persisting.
