In a significant breakthrough, the police have apprehended a relative of the victim in the case of a theft amounting to Rs 2.5 crore in gold jewelry and cash. The accused, identified as Rafiq (35), a resident of Bairasandra, who owns a condiments shop, has been taken into custody. The stolen items, including approximately 2.5 kg of gold jewelry and Rs 10 lakh in cash, were taken from the residence of scrap dealer Shanawaz, located in Tilaknagar’s SRK Garden. The theft occurred on September 23 while Shanawaz and his family were attending a relative’s wedding in Mandya. When they returned home on September 25, they discovered the absence of their cash and jewelry. Shanawaz had purchased gold jewelry for his daughter’s wedding, and these valuable items were kept at home. The police suspect that Rafiq had been plotting this theft for the past three months. He reportedly obtained duplicate keys to the house without the knowledge of Shanawaz and his family. Taking advantage of their absence during the wedding, Rafiq used these duplicate keys to gain access to the house and made away with the cash and jewelry. It has come to light that the accused resorted to this theft to repay a loan he had taken through mobile apps. Remarkably, Rafiq did not display any signs of anxiety after the theft. He remained at Shanawaz’s residence for two days, even when the police visited the house. The breakthrough in the case occurred when the police reviewed CCTV footage from the area. It was revealed that Rafiq had been researching theft techniques involving fake keys online. Tilaknagar police have officially registered a case in this matter, and the investigation is ongoing. With the recovery of items worth Rs 1.5 crore, the police are making significant progress in solving this high-value theft case.
