Rahul Gandhi praised Indian brands, criticized governance; BJP condemned, Congress defended him

Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, met with Colombian Senate President Lidios Garcia, Congress Overseas Chief Sam Pitroda shared on Saturday. Pitroda also announced the launch of a parliamentary friendship group with Peru, aimed at strengthening political, diplomatic, and commercial ties between the countries. He tweeted, “Accompanied Shri Rahul Gandhi and met Colombian Senate President Lidios Garcia. The launch of a Parliamentary Friendship Group with Peru will foster deeper political, diplomatic & commercial ties between our countries.”
Upon arriving in Peru, Pitroda posted a picture of a traditional welcome featuring music, dance, and cultural celebrations. “Arrived in Lima, Peru along with Shri Rahul Gandhi and received a heartfelt traditional welcome filled with music, dance & culture. Truly moving gesture of friendship,” he said on X.
During his visit to Colombia, Rahul Gandhi praised Indian automobile brands Bajaj, Hero, and TVS for their success there, attributing it to “innovation” rather than “cronyism.” He tweeted, “Proud to see Bajaj, Hero & TVS do so well in Colombia. Shows Indian companies can win with innovation, not cronyism. Great job.”
Rahul Gandhi’s remarks at EIA University sparked controversy, highlighting “structural flaws” and an “attack on democracy” in India. He stressed that India’s diverse cultures need democracy to thrive and coexist.
The BJP strongly criticized his remarks, calling them “anti-India” and accusing him of damaging India’s image abroad. In response, Congress MP Rajeev Shukla defended Gandhi, stating he does not malign India but highlights important issues. Shukla also pointed out BJP leaders have insulted former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru abroad.
