The University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS) is contemplating to get Krishi Mela in Guinness Book of World Records.
This year’s mela, witnessed 11 lakh people, including farmers, farm scientists, businessmen, students, researchers, engineers and others, visiting it.
It is said to be the biggest agricultural fair not only in the country but across the globe. UAS Vice-Chancellor PL Patil told that the varsity has formed a team of officials to make documentation and other preparations to get mela in the records book.
As per Guinness guidelines, the university should fill in the application form six months prior to the event. A team from the Guinness book will participate in the event and document it. Accordingly, UAS will invite the team to participate in next year’s mela. The previous melas had also evoked an overwhelming response from farmers not only from North Karnataka Districts, but also from Central and South Karnataka, Goa, Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh.
The first Krishi Mela was organised in 1986 after the Agriculture College was accorded university status. Earlier too, Krishi Melas were being held, but on a smaller scale.
