Unable to bear the debt, a couple committed suicide at Bandihatti in the city on Monday. The deceased have been identified as Eranna (28) and his wife Durgamma (25). The couple’s death has left a 16-month-old baby orphaned.
Eranna, who was addicted to alcohol, was heavily in debt. His wife Durgamma used to go to work and support the family. He was also demanding money from his wife Durgamma to drink. Eranna used to take away the money earned by his wife and consume liquor. He also attacked his wife when she did not give him money.Fed up with all this, Durgamma committed suicide at home. Fearing that he might be accused of his wife’s death due to alcoholism, her husband Eranna committed suicide. A case has been registered at Kaul Bazar Police station.
