Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor (L-G), V.K. Saxena, has granted approval for the allotment of five acres of land in Okhla to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) for the establishment of Solid Waste Management (SWM) facilities. This decision involves the transfer of lease rights and possession of five acres of land from the originally allocated twenty acres, which was initially granted to the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) on a perpetual lease basis. The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) is responsible for facilitating this transfer and ensuring its compliance with the provisions of the Master Plan for Delhi (MPD)-2021. The request for the allotment of five acres of land to the MCD was submitted by the MCD Commissioner to the Vice-Chairman of the DDA on October 10, 2022. The proposal has now been approved, with the condition that the MCD adheres to all terms and conditions outlined in the demand cum allotment letters issued by the DDA to the NDMC and the lease deeds executed with the NDMC. The allocated five-acre land parcel for the MCD includes existing structures such as administrative blocks, workshops, staff quarters, and a park. This existing infrastructure is expected to reduce the MCD’s development costs. The Lieutenant Governor has emphasized the importance of expediting land allotments for various developmental and infrastructural projects in Delhi, aiming to prevent delays caused by bureaucracy and administrative hurdles. In recent times, the DDA has allocated 18 parcels of land to the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) for activities related to the construction of sewer treatment plants and water treatment plants.
