Year-long celebrations of the platinum jubilee of Kalyana Karnataka liberalisation day will be held to project the artculture, history and tradition of the land, said Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Priyank Kharge.
He spoke after chairing a preparatory meeting for the celebrations, at the Deputy Commissioner’s office. He said they will also celebrate 10 years of the region getting special status under article 371(J) of the Constitution. Kalyana Karnataka Liberalisation Day on September 17.
He said open street festival will be organised in Kalaburgi, Bidar, Yadagiri, Raichuru, Ballari, Koppal and Vijayanagara districts. One main road at seven cities in the districts will be selected and it will be made traffic-free for the open street day celebrations.
The District Administrations should follow the Hampi Utsav model for the celebrations. Apart from the open street festival, art festival, food festival, toy shops, cultural programmes, entertainment programmes and folkdance programmes should be organised, and only local artists should be promoted, he said. Priyank Kharge told officials to collect data on how many people have benefitted from the reservation in jobs and professional courses under article 371(J). He also said district administrations must assess how the lives of people have changed after article 371(J) came into force.
On September 17, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will arrive and hoist the National Flag at the Police parade ground. He will also lay the foundation stones and inaugurate works worth thousands of crores. During these events, cultural programmes should be organised by utilising local artists instead of holding cultural events by children, Priyank told officials.
KKRDB Chairman Ajay Singh, Deputy Commissioner Fouzia Tarannum, KKRDB Secretary Anirudh Shravan, Superintendent of Police Isha Panth and City Police Commissioner R Chetan were present.
