Minor Irrigation, Science, and Technology Minister NS Bose Raju directed officials on Thursday to prioritise the filling of tanks and lakes, as well as the construction of barrages, in the interest of people and farmers.
Minister Bose Raju obtained information on the progress made in the departments of Minor Irrigation and groundwater recharge at his office in Vikasa Soudha.
He directed the officials to have a time-bound action plan to remove obstacles and complete the pending works at the earliest. There should be a periodical review of the on-going works so that the works are completed in a time-bound manner and in a cost-effective way. The Minister also emphasized taking up farmer-friendly projects such as the construction of barrages and filling up tanks and lakes. By undertaking these projects, the groundwater will get recharged, he added.
Bose Raju also directed that the officials submit a monthly progress report to the ministry and to the department Secretary . Also directed the Chief Engineers to hold regular review meetings at the Taluk level and to visit the project site on a regular basis. Minor Irrigation Secretary Yathishchandra, Chief Engineers of Groundwater North and South Zones, and other senior officials were present in the review meeting.
