The Central Government’s Vibrant Village Programme, which prevents the migration of people from villages on the borders of the country including Arunachal Pradesh and provides basic facilities to the villages, is being considered to be implemented on the coastal border of Karnataka as well. Malpe Coast Guard Police Superintendent Abdul Ahad said that Coast Guard Police has studied the villages here and sent a report to the Centre.

Speaking to media persons, he said that cases of drug trafficking have not been found in the sea in our jurisdiction so far. Criminals do not transport these at sea as it is more expensive. However, we are working on alert.

Narcotics is not only a social scourge but also a major threat to the security of the country. So everyone needs to work together against this. He said that many cases related to consumption and sale of ganja on beaches have been registered and strict action has been taken.

From the perspective of security, CCTV has been installed in more than 500 places along the coast from Karwar to Mangalore through a public participation campaign.  Private individuals have responded to our request and installed CCTV in our houses and buildings even towards the sea, SP said.

Karavali Kavalu Police operates in a CRZ area of 12 nautical miles (20 km) at sea and 500 meters on land. From the security point of view, information is collected about the foreigners staying in the resorts. Similarly checks are done at ports. He said that everyone will give us good cooperation in the matter of country’s security.

The department has drones and boats. Central and state governments are providing all necessary facilities, he said.
